3-Ingredient Strawberry Jam
Ontario strawberries are at their peak of flavour, so it’s time to make jam. This 3-Ingredient chia seed strawberry jam is a healthy alternative to traditional jam. It’s made with natural, whole-food ingredients and it’s so easy to make. This summery jam is packed with syrupy sweet flavours and loaded with chunks of strawberry. It’s a simple delicious jam.
Make a batch of this jam and schmear on toast with some peanut butter, on a slice of cheese with a cracker. You can even use it for baking – check out the recipe for my Benedict Tart.
3-Ingredient Strawberry Jam
Ingredients
- 1 ½ pounds fresh strawberries, stemmed and cut in half
- ¼ cup honey, add a few extra tablespoons for a sweeter jam
- 2 tbsp chia seeds
Instructions
- Add stemmed strawberries and honey to a medium saucepan and place on the stove over medium heat.
- Stir the strawberries as they begin to soften.
- Once the berries have softened to the point that they're starting to fall apart, add the chia seeds and stir them well. The chia seeds will help the jam achieve a gelatinous texture.
- Let the mixture come to a slow boil, stirring continually.
- Use a fork to break up the berries, if necessary.
- Continue stirring the mixture over low heat for about 15-20 minutes, until a thick texture is reached, and then remove the pan from the stove.
- Pour the jam into a clean jar and allow to cool, covered, at room temperature for an hour before placing in the fridge to cool completely.
