Bobba’s Banana Chocolate Chip Bread

Banana Chocolate Chip Bread1

Handwritten recipe cards that are passed down from generation to generation very often show the love that went into those recipes with stains and the wear and tear of them. For me nothing beats a tried and true old-fashioned recipe like this one that’s been handed down from my Grandmother who I called Bobba, which reminds me of someone so special, and takes me back to my childhood.

It turns out that some of the recipes are as special as the fond memories associated with them and others not so much. I have taken the original recipe and made it my own, and I hope you enjoy my version of my Bobba’s Banana Chocolate Chip Bread.

Course Dessert

Ingredients

  • 2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • ¾ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3-4 overripe bananas cut into chunks
  • cups sugar
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter melted and cooled
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a loaf pan with cooking spray and set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt.
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the bananas and sugar for a few minutes until well combined.
  • Add the cooled melted butter, eggs and vanilla and beat well scraping down the sides of the bowl. Add the dry ingredients and mix together until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Optional step – slice a banana lengthwise and place two slices of the banana gently onto the batter. Bake in preheated oven for about 1 hour and 10 minutes, until golden brown and a skewer inserted in the center of the loaf comes out clean. Allow to cool for 20 minutes before removing from the pan.

I hope you enjoy this recipe!
