Baked Honey Garlic Tofu

Baked Honey Garlic Tofu

This is my husband’s favourite tofu dish. It’s crispy honey garlic tofu. Every piece of tofu is golden and crispy and coated in a sweet and gently spiced honey garlic sauce. And best of all, it’s baked in the oven so a minimal amount of oil is used.

It’s best enjoyed when it’s just made, as it looses its crispiness (but not its flavour) when it’s stored in the fridge.

Baked Honey Garlic Tofu

Serve with steamed jasmine rice and a side of sautéed greens for an all round satisfying meal.

Full disclosure – I don’t eat tofu. I really don’t like the texture, but I feel like I’ve perfected the way to prepare really good tofu, just the way my hubby loves it. It makes him happy, so it makes me happy.

Baked Honey Garlic Tofu

Course Side Dish

Ingredients

For the Tofu

  • 400 g extra firm tofu, cubed
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch⁣⁣⁣
  • avocado oil

For the Honey Garlic Sauce

  • cup honey⁣⁣⁣
  • 1 tbsp tamari
  • 2 tbsp sweet chili sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar⁣⁣⁣
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 3 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp aleppo pepper
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds⁣⁣⁣

Instructions

For the Tofu

  • Preheat oven to 425℉
  • Line a baking sheet with aluminum (see note below) and spray with avocado oil.
  •
Place the cubed tofu in a bowl and toss with the cornstarch until thoroughly coated.

  • Place each piece of the tofu onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them, so that they aren’t touching.
  • Bake in the oven for 30 minutes, turning the tofu cubes halfway through, until slightly golden and crisp.

  • Toss the tofu in the sauce while it is still hot.

For the Honey Garlic Sauce

  • While the tofu is in the oven, prepare the sauce.
  •
In a medium bowl, stir together the honey, tamari, sweet chili sauce, vinegar, garlic, sliced green onion, aleppo pepper and sesame seeds.

Notes

I suggest using aluminum to line the baking sheet, and not parchment. The aluminum and high heat will get the tofu cubes golden and crispy.
