Flaky Cinnamon Rolls
Another day, another cinnamon roll. This version is a flaky cinnamon roll made with store bought puff pastry. For these cinnamon rolls you need just four ingredients – puff pastry, butter, cinnamon and sugar. They are so simple to put together, it should be illegal.
This recipe is for those who are short on time, if you are intimidated by making your own yeasted or puff pastry or just can’t be bothered to make your own. It’s ok! I’ve got you covered. You can still enjoy cinnamon rolls by following along here. I always have puff pastry in the freezer, to use in a pinch. It’s buttery, flaky, and can be used for both sweet and savoury recipes.
Flaky Cinnamon Rolls
Ingredients
- 1 package frozen puff pastry thawed in the refrigerator overnight
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter melted
- ⅓ cup brown sugar
- 3 tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp kosher salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Place butter in a small pan and melt.
- Stir together the cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl.
- Unfold the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured work surface. Depending on the size of the dough, you may need to cut it into a few rectangles and roll out to approximately 9 x 5”.
- Roll the pastry out a bit and brush the surface with melted butter.
- Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the butter.
- Roll the pastry tightly along the long side.
- Cut the pastry in half along the length of the dough.
- Roll each piece into a spiral, tucking the edge under the roll.
- Brush a muffin pan with some butter and place the spiral in the pan. Do the same with the other piece. Repeat the process again.
- Brush the tops with a little butter.
- Bake the spiral rolls for 22-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and run a knife around the edges to loosen. Allow to cool for a few minutes and gently remove each roll from the pan, brush with melted butter and sprinkle tops with the leftover cinnamon sugar mixture.
I hope you enjoy this recipe!

Seems like we are missing a step. Cut the dough in half then what?? Should you cut the halves to make spirals? Like 2″ or so then put in muffin tins??
The steps are all there.
Roll the pastry tightly along the long side.
Cut the pastry in half along the length of the dough.
Roll each piece into a spiral, tucking the edge under the roll.
