Phyllo-Wrapped Baked Feta with Honey
Warm baked feta wrapped in layers of crispy, golden phyllo pastry and drizzled with honey! This is an easy appetizer made with store-bought phyllo dough wrapped around a block of feta cheese, brushed with olive oil and baked until golden brown, crispy on the outside and the feta gets all nice and warm on the inside before being topped off with nutty sesame seeds and drizzled with warm honey. The perfect combination of sweet and savoury.
Ingredient List
- Phyllo pastry: use store-bought for ease and convenience.
- Feta: you need to use rectangular blocks of feta in brine. Don’t use cubed or crumbled feta. I always go for goat feta.
- Butter: melted unsalted butter to brush the layers of phyllo pastry. You could use extra virgin olive oil.
- Thyme or dill: you can use fresh or dried to sprinkle over the feta before baking.
- Sesame seeds: use sesame seeds or nigella seeds for a nutty flavour.
- Black pepper: freshly cracked black pepper always adds flavour. Salt is not necessary, the feta brings enough salt.
- Honey: any honey will work. I like hot honey as it packs a little punch.
