Place flour, baking powder, sugar and salt into a large bowl and whisk together. Set aside.
Melt butter in a bowl in the microwave. Whisk the egg, buttermilk and vanilla together and stir in the melted butter.
Add the wet mixture to the dry and mix until combined.
Melt 1 tsp butter in a large pan over medium-high heat.
Once melted add about ⅓ cup of batter to the pan.
Cook for a few minutes until golden. Flip and cook an additional minute.
Serve with butter and syrup.
