Place flour, sugar, baking powder, pumpkin spice and salt in a large bowl and whisk together. Set aside.
Melt butter in a bowl in the microwave.
Whisk together buttermilk, egg and maple extract together and stir in the melted butter.
Add the wet mixture to the dry mixture and stir until combined.
Finally add the pumpkin purée and stir to combine.
Melt 1 tsp butter in a large pan over medium-high heat. Once melted add about ⅓ cup of batter to the pan.
Cook for a few minutes until golden. Flip and cook an additional minute.
Serve with butter and syrup.
