Vegan Bacon

Ingredients

  • 4 pieces rice paper square works beater than round
  • 1 tbsp nutritional yeast.
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp tamari or soy sauce
  • ½ tsp liquid smoke
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp avocado oil

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.

For the Marinade

  • Whisk together nutritional yeast, garlic powder, paprika, pepper, tamari, liquid smoke, syrup and olive oil in a bowl.

For the Bacon Strips

  • Dip a pice of rice paper in warm water for just a few seconds and quickly cut into strips with a sharp scissors.
  • Lay each piece on the prepared baking sheet and baste with the marinade. Gently turn over and baste the other side. It’s ok if it gets a bit scrunched up.
  • Repeat with remaining rice paper.
  • Bake for about 7 to 8 minutes, until crisp.
  • Keep an eye on the baking sheet as the strips can burn easily.
  • Once out of the oven, remove from the baking sheet right away and place on a cooling rack.
